Aranui 5 Day 2 Ana

Ana is a coral atoll 377 KM East of Tahiti. It is a series of 11 small coral islands known as motu bordering a 90 km2 lagoon. They receive three supply ships a month and one flight a week from Tahiti. We spent a day on one of the motus, mostly on the long sand beach. Don’t let the photos fool you. If you want a superior sand beach head to any of the Lake Winnipeg beaches. The sand is mostly crushed coral which can be sharp to walk on. The water had a layer of silt that made it difficult to walk. Water shoes are a must because of the dangers in the water such as sea urchins and stone fish.

The Aranui 5 from the barge taking us ashore.

We toured the motu. There are some lovely scenes. We had lunch on the beach, then back on the ship.

The old wharf at Ana. We landed at the new one.
You had to be very careful walking on the wharf.
Barb on the beach.
A salt water estuary on Ana.
Beautiful tropical location.

After a day on the beach, back to the ship.

We tried snorkeling at Ana. Unfortunately, it’s not a prime snorkeling location.

We met Tim Johnson, a travel writer from the Globe and Mail and had a great afternoon by the pool swapping travel stories.

I took a ukulele lesson late in the afternoon. Note to self: Don’t give up speaking for a career in music.
